Ingman steps down as Women's Hockey, Women's Golf head coach

MEQUON, Wis. – After seven years at Concordia University Wisconsin, Jim Ingman, the coach who started the Women's Hockey program, has resigned to spend more time with his family, which recently relocated to the Madison area. Ingman also has served as the Women's Golf coach for the past two seasons.

"It has been a great seven years at CUW," Ingman said. "To build a program from scratch and in four years to be in the final four of our league tournament was a special accomplishment."

A national search for the next Women's Hockey head coach will begin immediately.

"Today I have accepted the resignation of our Women's Hockey and Women's Golf head coach, Jim Ingman," said CUW Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. "I wish to thank Coach Ingman and his family for the many years of loyal service to our program, and for all of the value that he has added to the CUW Athletic Department

"Jim undertook the daunting task of starting our program and his DNA will be forever part of the legacy of CUW Women's Hockey and we will miss him personally and professionally. However, at this time, I will begin the process of finding the best women's hockey coach that I can to support the mission of CUW and to achieve the lofty goals that we have for our program."

Ingman came to CUW prior to the 2007-08 season and hit the ground running in starting the program. In just four years he had the Falcons above .500, going 13-11-4 in 2010-11. That season also saw the Falcons advance to the semifinal round of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs, where they fell to eventual national qualifier, UW-River Falls.

Throughout his seven seasons the Falcons won 48 games. Ingman coached three players to All-NCHA First Team honors and six players earned All-NCHA Honorable Mention recognition under his direction. He also guided two players to All-NCHA Freshman Team accolades.

Prior to coming to CUW, Ingman served as an assistant coach at both NCAA Division I Bemidji State University and NCAA Division III UW-Stevens Point. Ingman was at UW-SP when they were in the inaugural season of the NCHA, the Falcons current league. He has been coaching in the collegiate ranks for 15 seasons and is excited about becoming a fan again.

"My main goal will to be to spend more time with my family," said Ingman. "I am also looking forward to becoming a fan again, something I haven't been able to do for 15 years."

In addition to his Women's Hockey coaching duties, Ingman has also served as the Women's Golf head coach for each of the past two seasons, taking over prior to the fall of 2012. During that time the Falcons have won the past two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships and Ingman has coached the NACC Golfer of the Year in each of his two seasons, as well as the NCAA Freshman of the Year in 2012-13. He was also named NACC Coach of the Year in 2012-13.

Last spring the Women's Golf team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships under his leadership, which was a first in program history. The Falcons had a good showing as Nina Puch tied the lowest round at the championships with a 72.

"I'm most going to miss the players I got to work with during my time here," Ingman said. "I'll also miss the other coaches who I got to work with here at CUW. This is a school that has the right vision and the right people to fulfill its mission."
