Lake Forest shuts out Women's Hockey in NCHA action
MEQUON, Wis. – Two goals scored 37 seconds apart early in the second period played a big factor in Lake Forest College handing Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey its first conference loss of the season. The Foresters would add two more scores, downing CUW 4-0 Friday at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
The first 20 minutes saw no scoring, despite CUW having opportunities to build a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons had four power play opportunities, including 58 seconds of a 5-on-3 advantage, but were unable to get anything past Foresters goaltender Casey Hartfiel. CUW outshot LFC 13-4 in the first stanza.
The second period was all Lake Forest, as they built a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission. The Foresters struck twice 37 seconds apart in scoring the game's first two goals. Morgan Pope put LFC up 1-0 1:43 into the second period. The Falcons then committed their first penalty of the contest and Michelle Greeneway scored 15 seconds into the power play, making the score 2-0.
Logan Taylor added the third goal of the game for Lake Forest, while Melissa Paluch put the finishing touches on in the third period, making the final count 4-0. CUW failed to score for the second straight contest, also being shut out by Augsburg last Sunday.
Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) made 29 saves for the Falcons, facing several difficult scoring opportunities from Lake Forest in the contest. Hartfield finished with 23 saves for Lake Forest.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow as both squads will hit the road for a matchup in Lake Forest. The Falcons will be seeking a series split in the game scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
