Women's Hockey concludes Minnesota trip with setback versus St. Catherine

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A third period goal scored at the 5:55 mark gave St. Catherine University a 3-2 win over the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team Sunday afternoon at Drake Arena. The loss ended a disappointing Minnesota road trip for the Falcons who went 0-3-0 against the MIAC schools.

After falling behind 2-0 after 20 minutes of play, CUW got second period goals from senior Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Baylee Darling (Holmen, Wis.) to even the score at 2-2. Unfortunately, SCU would score the only goal in the third period, coming off the stick of Kira Kuntz, to give the home team a 3-2 win.

St. Catherine (7-4-1) got the scoring started 6:29 into the first period with a goal from Hannah Okerstrom, which was assisted by Bailey Rasmussen and Kuntz. The Wildcats pushed the lead to 2-0 on a score from Maureen Ryan with four minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

Blohowiak started the Falcons strong second period with the team's third shorthanded goal of the season. Her goal came at the 4:05 mark of the second and was unassisted. Darling then scored 2:59 later on a goal assisted by junior Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.). That would be all the scoring until the game-winner with 14:05 remaining in the contest.

Junior Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) was the goalie of record for the Falcons despite not starting the contest for the first time this season. DeGeorge was solid in her 43:02 of play, making 17 saves and allowing just one goal. Freshman Bridget Slater (Roseau, Minn.) started the contest for CUW. Alex Hall earned the win between the pipes, stopping 28 of 30 shots she faced.

Neither the Falcons nor Wildcats could capitalize on a power play chance on Sunday as both teams went 0-for-3 with the extra skater. CUW held a 30-21 edge in shots on goal, including outshooting SCU 14-6 during the second period.

The Falcons (6-8-0) will return to action next weekend when they complete a five-game road swing with a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games against Adrian College. The Falcons and Bulldogs will kick the weekend off with a game Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. CST.
