St. Scholastica skates past Women's Hockey in NCHA action

MEQUON, Wis. – Playing in its first home game since January 4, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team dropped its seventh straight, this time by a 3-1 count against The College of St. Scholastica. The Saints scored once in each period to down the Falcons at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

CUW got its lone of goal of the game from junior Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) as she scored 5:45 into the second period. Reiter's power play score, which tied the score at 1-1, was assisted by senior Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.).

The Saints (10-5-2, 8-2-1 NCHA) would answer right back, taking a 2-1 lead on a goal from freshman Isabel Waidacher, a player who ranks second in the nation in points scored. Waidacher's score was assisted by Michelle Fischer, one of her two assists in the game. The second period Saints goal would go down as the game winner.

CSS built a 1-0 lead in the first period as Nikki Logergren scored a power play goal 3:21 into play, putting CUW in an early disadvantage. Briget Cojocar and Sierra Hanowski were credited with assists on the game's opening goal.

The Saints would add a third and final goal late in the third period off the stick of Monika Waidacher. Fischer again assisted on that score, which came with just 1:50 left in the game.

CUW (6-11-0, 4-6-0) won the shots battle on Friday as they recorded 35 compared to 28 for the Saints. Unfortunately the Falcons couldn't solve Saints goaltender Lindsey Hartfiel as she made 34 saves in the win. Junior Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) finished with 25 saves for the Falcons.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon as they conclude their weekend series at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. and live video will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
