Women's Basketball Beats Benedictine on Alumnae Day

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team had a lot to celebrate on Saturday. The Falcons welcomed back the alumnae and honored the life of Krista Mayyou Parker before the 71-60 victory over Benedictine. The victory propels Concordia to 4-8 on the year and 4-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Falcons led wire to wire on Saturday afternoon with sophomore Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) starting the scoring with a layup.

Concordia elevated the lead to 8-2 with a 6-0 run that was anchored by four points from senior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.).

After Benedictine trimmed the lead to 8-5, the Falcons scored the next six points again to boost the lead to 15-5.

The Eagles surged back and cut the Concordia lead to 16-15 with a minute left in the first quarter.

A layup from senior Liliana Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) gave the Falcons an 18-15 lead after 10 minutes.

The Red and White scored a layup eight seconds into the quarter to trim the lead to 18-17, and the Falcons responded with a 14-0 run over the next five minutes. Sophomore Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) feasted on the Eagles with eight points in the run.

A layup from sophomore Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) brought the lead up to 19 points at 38-19 with 1:48 left in the first half and a jump shot before the buzzer from senior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) gave the Blue and White a 40-22 lead at halftime.

Concordia continued to pile onto the lead in the first few minutes of the third quarter. A layup from junior Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) put the Falcons up 50-26 with 7:16 left in the quarter.

The high water mark was a 27-point margin at 3:42 left in the quarter after Andrea Butterbrodt scored in the paint.

The Falcons held a 62-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles trimmed the CUW lead to eight points with 52 seconds remaining, but Ava Booth scored six points in the final 66 seconds to dash any hope of a comeback.

The Falcons feasted in the paint with 42 points.

Gracie McNabb finished with 18 points to lead the game.

Aubrey DeBauch notched another double-double performance with a game-high 11 rebounds, to go with 11 points, six assists and two blocks.

Andrea Butterbrodt collected 11 points and Ava Booth ended with 10 points.

Wednesday will showcase two of the best teams in the NACC as the Falcons in second place at 4-1 travel to first-place St. Norbert at 4-0.
