Women’s Basketball Downs Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's basketball team continued their strong conference play, defeating Dominican University 70-51 in a dominant wire-to-wire performance.

The Falcons took control early, winning all four quarters and starting the game with a fast-paced 19-10 lead after the first period. Senior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillet, Wis.) led the charge in the opening frame, scoring eight points, grabbing four rebounds, and recording two steals.

Defensively, CUW was outstanding, limiting Dominican to just 35.7 percent shooting (5-of-14) in the first quarter.

DeBauch continued her impressive play in the second quarter, contributing seven more points to extend the Falcons' lead to 38-25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Dominican made a brief push, trimming the deficit to just six points early on. But the Falcons responded with poise, repeatedly attacking the basket and drawing fouls. Sophomore Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Liliana Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) both converted key free throws to maintain CUW's advantage.

The pivotal moment came late in the third, when junior Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) scored consecutive layups to push the Falcons' lead to 52-39. DeBauch capped off the quarter with an and-one play, solidifying the Falcons' control of the game.

In the fourth, Concordia continued to build on their lead. Sophomore Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) buried a three-pointer, pushing the Falcons' advantage to 19 points. Freshman Kristin Wentling (Arlington Heights, Ill.) made her mark with back-to-back layups, and senior Abby Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) knocked down two clutch free throws to keep Dominican at bay.

CUW's defense remained locked in, holding Dominican to just 28.6 percent shooting for the game, while the Falcons shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field.

The Falcons also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Dominican 46-40, and recorded 14 assists compared to 11 for the Stars.

DeBauch posted a stellar double-double, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals. Butterbrodt came up just one rebound shy of a double-double, contributing 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

The Falcons will continue their road trip next when they face MSOE in their next conference matchup.
