Softball secures NACC Tournament spot at CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Falcons secured a spot in the NACC Tournament with a 7-5 victory in game one at Concordia Chicago. Game two will be resumed on a later date after a storm suspended play in the fourth inning. With the victory, CUW improves to 20-8 on the year and to 15-2 in the NACC. The victory sends CUW to the 20-win mark for the 11th-straight season and 13th in program history.

The Blue and White posted three runs in the first inning.

Sophomore Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) singled through the left side of the infield to score Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) and junior Molly O'Connell.

Junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) then singled to shortstop to score Jenna Pozezinski.

The Cougars scored five-unanswered run to take the lead heading into the fifth inning.

Maddie Zazas singled through the right side of the infield in the sixth inning to tie the game with sophomore Heather Renard (Wrightstown, Wis.) and freshman Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) crossing home plate.

Jenna Pozezinski then homered to left field to score Maddie Zazas.

Junior Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) picked up her third victory in the circle. Freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) had four strikeouts in the victory.

Jenna Pozezinski led all players with four hits.

The victory keeps CUW 1 ½ games ahead of MSOE for first place in the NACC. The Falcons also secured a spot in the NACC Tournament.
