Falcons completely extinguish Inferno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a 22-hour delay, the CUW softball team completed the sweep of Alverno. With last night's game called due to darkness, the two teams resumed playing in the top of the fifth inning on Tuesday evening. The Falcons walked away with a 13-3 victory to improve to 8-7 on the year.

The restart started with a single from freshman Payton Dorn (Freedom, Wis.) to left-center field to score senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.).

Freshman Jillian Gardner (Plainfielld, Ill.) then advanced the runners.

Alverno scored a run in the fifth inning on a home run.

The Tuesday evening action began in the top of the fifth inning with one out.

On Monday night, The Falcons struck in the first inning of game two with a sacrifice fly from senior Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) to score junior Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.).

Alverno took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a home run.

Senior Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) evened the game in the second inning with a single through the left side of the infield to score freshman Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.).

In the fourth inning, Kuske scored on an error to extend the lead.

Junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) sent freshman Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) home on a double.

The floodgates opened for the Falcons in the fifth inning, finishing the inning with nine runs.

Sara Rosenow stole second base for her 53rd stolen base and the school record. Passing Tara Wagner at 52.

Rosenow then stepped on home plate on a double from Becky Bonnin, which also scored Taylor Kuske.

Krystal Cortes then sent Bonnin in safely on a single through the right side of the infield.

A fielding error scored freshman Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.).

Maddie Zazas then singled up the middle of the infield to score junior Samantha Schloegl (Genoa City, Wis.) and Molly O'Connell.

Taylor Kuske singled down the left field line to score sophomore Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Maddie Zazas.

The Blue and White broke a school record with nine stolen bases.

In the circle, freshman Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) earned the victory with two strikeouts. Freshman Alyssa Vilkoski (Greenfield, Wis.) had a strikeout in two innings of pitching.

The games at Wisconsin-Whitewater that were originally scheduled for Tuesday were moved to Thursday, April 11.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday at Dominican.
