Softball elevated to new levels in 2019

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball program came together as a team to reach new heights in 2019.

The Falcons claimed their first-ever NACC regular season title in 2019 with a 19-3 conference record. The Blue and White clinched the crown with a pair of victories against Rockford. The title was the second regular season title in program history, with a Lake Michigan Conference tile in 2002.

Concordia Wisconsin was picked to finish sixth in the NACC Preseason Poll.

CUW finished the year with a record of 24-11.

The success on the field led to surge of postseason awards

Junior Molly O'Connell was named to the NFCA Great Lakes All-Region Second Team and sophomore Jenna Pozezinski was naked to the NFCA Great Lake All-Region Third Team.

The Falcons also had a program record six All-NACC selections. On the All-NACC First Team was Gina Followell, Molly O'Connell and Jenna Pozezinski. Earning All-NACC Second Team accolades was Becky Bonnin, Sara Rosenow and Maddie Zazas.

CUW also had Gina Followell named the NACC Freshman of the Year and Steve Crook claim the NACC Coach of the Year honor. Followell is the first Falcon to claim the honor.

The NACC also named Jenna Pozezinski the NACC Position Player of the Week on March 18 and April 16. Becky Bonnin claimed the title on April 9. Gina Followell was named the NACC Pitcher of the Week on April 23.

Three school records were established in 2019. Jenna Pozezinski tied the record with six runs batted in against Loras. Sara Rosenow is the all-time leader in stolen bases at 63 and Maddie Zazas is the all-time hits leader with 195.

The Falcons showed a never die attitude in 2019 and scored four runs in the seventh inning on three different occasions to defeat Dominican, Marian and Wisconsin Lutheran.

Concordia Wisconsin looks to build off the momentum from 2019 into a strong 2020 season.
