Softball splits home opener against MSOE

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons opened NACC action on Sunday against the Raiders of MSOE. The Raiders started the day with a 1-0 victory, but the Falcons responded with a 5-1 victory to close the day. CUW now sits at 6-7 and MSOE is at 12-6.

The lone Raider run was in the fifth inning on a double.

Freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) recorded seven strikeouts in the circle.

Junior Samantha Schloegl (Genoa City, Wis.) led CUW in game one with two hits.

The Falcons wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game two.

With the bases loaded in the first inning, senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) was walked, to score Samantha Schloegl.

MSOE tied the game in the third inning.

Senior Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) broke the tie in the fifth inning on a double into the gap in left center field to score freshman Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) and Sara Rosenow.

Freshman Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) then scored junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.).

In the sixth inning, Sara Rosenow singled in Samantha Schloegl. Rosenow stole her 51st base on Sunday and is one away from tying the school record.

Freshman Alyssa Vilkoski (Greenfield, Wis.) recorded her first victory in the circle.

The Falcons return to play on Monday at Alverno.
