Falcons Silence Scarlet Hawks

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's volleyball team took on the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech in their first of a two-game weekend.

The Blue and White improved to 7-2 in conference play with the victory.

The Falcons took a quick lead with a 25-19, set-one victory. A trio of kills from the veteran leadership of senior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) and junior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) gave the Blue and White a 20-14 lead late in the set. Freshman Ben Kayser (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished off the set with a kill.

The Falcons didn't let up with a 25-22 victory in set two. The Scarlet Hawks led the second set heading into the back half of the frame. 

A kill followed by two straight service aces from sophomore Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) tied the set at 15. A four-point run heading into the final points gave the Falcons a 24-20 lead. Herman capped off the set with a kill.

It was all Falcons in the third set with a final score of 25-14. The Scarlet Hawks went up early with a 3-1 lead. A 14-6 run gave the Falcons the 15-9 lead just over halfway through the set. The run saw multiple Falcon kills including some from Beres, Kayser, and Herman. A block sent the Scarlet Hawks packing with a wall built by sophomore Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) and Beres.

The Falcons hit .303 with 41 total kills as well as four service aces.

The Blue and White offense was led by Spencer Herman with 14 kills. He added one service ace and eight digs.

Kebisek dished out 34 assists and dug five attacks.

With the three sets played, Ellingham played in his 254th set in his career which is the most in program history.

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday afternoon with another NACC contest against Wisconsin Lutheran.
