Benedictine deals Men's Soccer first home loss of 2016

MEQUON, Wis. – A second-half goal by Nick Kapetanos of Benedictine, the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's leading scorer, dealt the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team its first home loss of the 2016 season Wednesday. The Falcons were shut out for the second straight time, falling 1-0 against NACC unbeaten Benedictine.

 THE BASICS
- Final Score: Benedictine 1, Concordia Wisconsin 0
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Benedictine 8-3-1, 4-0-0 NACC; Concordia Wisconsin 8-3-0, 1-3-0 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kapetanos showed why he leads the NACC in goals in the 65th minute with a brilliant volley to the top left corner of the net. His 16th goal of the year was set up by Erik Stammer. The score was also the eighth game-winner for Kapetanos this season.

- The Falcons got some good looks in both halves, including a strike by senior Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) late in the first. From about 25 yards out, Clayton hit the crossbar, almost giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

- CUW finished with a 14-9 edge in shots, but the Eagles did end up with one more shot on goal, recording six to the Falcons five.

- Junior Killian Mielotz (Grafton, Wis.) made three saves in playing the first half for the Falcons, while freshman Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) stopped two shots in the second half. Benedictine received a five-save effort from Antonio Marti-Polo.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons were shut out in their second straight game, also falling 2-0 on Saturday at Aurora. You'd have to go back to the 2007 season for the last time CUW was shut out in two straight contests (October 23 vs. Edgewood and October 26 at UW-Oshkosh).

- The loss was the first home setback of the season for the Falcons. CUW entered Wednesday with a perfect 5-0-0 record at Fitting Field this season.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will stay at home and look to get back on track Saturday with a NACC showdown against Edgewood. The match is the latter part of a women's/men's doubleheader and is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start. The women's match are slated for a 1 p.m. start.
