Men's Soccer, Knox play to scoreless draw

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team played to a scoreless draw with unbeaten Knox College Sunday afternoon in a defensive battle at Fitting Field.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 0, Knox 0
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 3-1-1, Knox 5-0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

- As with any scoreless draw in soccer it was all about the defense and goalkeepers on Sunday. Knox held a 17-14 edge in shots, but the Falcons had a 4-1 advantage on shots in the second overtime.

- Senior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) made nine saves in the match, including six in the second half to keep Knox off the board. The nine saves tied a career best for Brew.

- Justin Dunn was also impressive at goalkeeper for the Prairie Fire as he stopped seven shots.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- As Matt Menzl, the man who called Sunday's match on the Falcon Athletic Network, pointed out, the Falcons have had some tough luck in overtime recently. CUW is 0-12-14 in its last 26 overtime matches. The last time the Falcons won in overtime was October 16, 2009, a 1-0 win over Rockford in double overtime.

- We mentioned earlier this season that Brew tends to post shutouts in streaks as his previous four before the season came in a five match streak back in 2013. He now has his second four shutouts in five match streak, posting four in the first five matches of 2015.

- The tie was the first non-win of the season for the Prairie Fire. Knox had defeated three NACC schools as well, downing Edgewood, Concordia Chicago and Marian.

- The match featured seven yellow cards, three of those being whistled on the Falcons.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will travel to Beloit for a non-conference match Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
