Men's Lacrosse Crushes Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Concordia Wisconsin men's lacrosse returned to the win column on Saturday. The Falcons collected a 13-6 victory at Cornell to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

The Rams were first the first team onto the scoreboard on Saturday, but the Falcons responded with a 9-0 run.

Senior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) ran past his defender to level the game off an assist to freshman Jason Michalski (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.).

Junior Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.) broke right and scored from 10 yards out off a pass from sophomore  Pat Ryan (Western Springs, Ill.).

The first quarter scoring ended when sophomore Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.) crashed the net and a low shot ended the quarter at 3-1 after an assist from Caleb Ruger.

The second-quarter scoring started when Jason Michalski broke past the defender and fooled the goalie.

Michalski struck again 37 seconds later off tic-tac-toe passing and an assist to Max Esposito.

Max Esposito caught the Rams' defense sleeping after she was able to sneak past the defense and scored with flair off the feed from Jason Michalski.

Esposito closed the first-half scoring when he snuck in from behind the net off a pass from Caleb Ruger.

The Falcons went into halftime holding a 7-1 lead.

Max Esposito continued his Ram hunt 39 seconds into the third quarter with a laser that connected after a pass from Jason Michalski.

Esposito scored his fourth-straight goal and his fifth of the day on a tight-angled shot.

Cornell snapped the Concordia scoring streak with a goal with 10:58 left in the third quarter.

The Falcons then stormed down the field off a turnover and freshman Jared Schmeling (Lakeville, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Max Esposito.

Max Esposito was set up in front of the net and he made the Rams pay with his sixth goal of the afternoon and an assist to freshman Frank Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis.). The assist was the first collegiate point for Trewyn.

The Falcons struck again 21 seconds later with a goal for Pat Ryan off an assist from Max Esposito.

The Rams rallied with three-straight goals to end the third quarter at 12-5 to try to make a rally on their ranch.

The Concordia scoring ended when sophomore Gio Nowotarski (Reading, Pa.) charged down the right side and threw a lightning bolt past the Cornell keeper.

The Falcons held a 44-37 advantage in shots on Saturday.

Senior Evan Leden (Waukegan, Ill.) ended the day with 10 saves, four ground balls and one caused turnover.

Senior Noah Brandt (Owatonna, Minn.) gathered a game-high 11 ground balls and 10 faceoff victories in the victory.

Max Esposito finished with a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday for the home opener against Dubuque.
