Falcons Fall at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The CUW men's lacrosse team headed to Calvin to take on the knights in their second road game of the young 2023 season.

Calvin recorded the first goal of the matchup just over a minute into the contest.

The Falcons responded with a tying goal with 4:37 remaining in the first quarter off a goal from freshman Preston Meier (Owatonna, Minn.) and an assist from sophomore Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.).

Calvin took the lead back just 40 seconds later at 2-1.

The Falcons scored their first man-up goal of the matchup to tie the game at two off the stick of sophomore Gio Nowotarski (Reading, Pa.). He was assisted by Meier.

Calvin took a two-goal lead with the next two, including a man-up goal, with a score of 4-2.

The Falcons ended the first quarter with a goal by senior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.). The goal was unassisted.

Calvin scored the lone goal of the second quarter and the teams headed into halftime with a score of 5-3 in favor of the Knights.

Junior Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.) got the third quarter rolling with a goal assisted by Esposito.

The Knights scored the next three goals spanning the rest of the third quarter and just over half of the fourth to take the 8-4 lead.

The Blue and White finished the matchup with an unassisted goal from Esposito.

Esposito led the Blue and White with three points on one goal and two assists.

Senior Evan Leden (Waukegan, Ill.) recorded nine saves on the afternoon.

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday in a matchup at Cornell.
