HOW IT HAPPENED
- The scoring came early and often in the second period of play, with the first goal coming from senior Travis Marit (Assiniboia, Saskatchewan) 3:28 into the period. The Falcons didn't stop there as they scored again not even three minutes later which came from freshman Nick Guiney (Victoria, British Columbia) on a beautiful feed from senior Jared Pilet (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Taylor Gauld (Whitby, Ontario) to push the lead to 2-0 in favor of CUW.
- Senior Brody Decker (Dousman, Wis.) continued the Falcon party as he fired one past Raider goalie Zach Woodman to build the score to 3-0 with 7:30 into the second period and Concordia Wisconsin in full control. MSOE chipped into the lead with a goal in the 17th minute by the way of Brett Wagner to bring the score to 3-1, and momentum in favor of the Raiders.
- The third period didn't disappoint as the two teams battled furiously back and forth. Concordia Wisconsin seemed to be cruising to a 4-1 victory when the Falcon's sophomore Jim Pearson (Ashton, Ontario) scored 5:50 into the final period and put the pressure on MSOE. The Raiders responded by getting two of the three goals to go with the first coming on a power-play by Jerad Tafoya and the second coming in the 10th minute by Tafoya, but the rally ended as CUW clamped down on the defensive side and came out with the important 4-3 NCHA victory.
- Concordia Wisconsin's junior Nick Malvin (Ham Lake, Minn.) had 33 saves that good enough for a 91.7 percent save percentage. Marit totaled a goal and an assist on the night along with Gauld, Garvey and Pilet who each had one assist.
