Balanced attack leads Men's Basketball past Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin did something it has never done before in program history on Saturday, as seven players scored in double-figures to led the Falcons to a dominating 100-75 victory over Rockford University. It was also the sixth-consecutive win for CUW and the eighth in the last nine games.

CUW continued its hot shooting and made just over half of its shots (50.7 percent) and forced 27 turnovers in the lopsided Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory. The Falcons finished with an impressive 60 points in the paint, 39 points off turnovers and received 42 points from their bench – all of which were season highs.

The Falcons led from the start and their lead quickly reach double-digits just over three minutes into the game. The advantage elevated to 20 points with eight minutes before halftime and almost reached 30 points with nearly four minutes before the intermission.

Junior Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) led the way with 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior Malcolm Bowers (Germantown, Wis.) had 13 points, four assists and a career-high four steals. Freshman Josh Erickson (Manitowoc, Wis.) had a career game with 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including a pair of triples.

Junior Brett Boettcher (New Holstein, Wis.) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds (four offensive). Senior Mark Scholz (Greenfield, Wis.), junior Bradley Prinsen (Oostburg, Wis.) and sophomore Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) each had 10 points. Senior Dustin Thumann (Marshfield, Wis.) stole a career-best three passes and freshman A.J. Taylor (Brookfield, Wis.) recorded his first career points on a layup with 1:02 to play.

Trae Blumhorst led the Regents (3-13, 2-9 NACC) with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Brandon Tyson added 10 points and five rebounds (four offensive). John O'Bryan and Kenny Parks each had nine points, while O'Bryan led all players with five assists.

CUW's defense was impressive and the 27 turnovers forced were the most since causing 28 at Marian University on Feb. 7, 2011. The Falcons also made 80.0 percent (20-of-25) of their free throw attempts and have now made 83.5 percent (101-121) over the last five games. They have also scored 50 or more points in the second half in consecutive games. The victory was also the ninth-straight win over the Regents and the second 100 point game in the last three meetings.

CUW returns to the court on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran College inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
