Balanced scoring give Men's Basketball dominating win over Martin Luther

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had six players finish in double-figures and led nearly the entire game en route to a 93-62 non-conference victory over Martin Luther College on Sunday during the Johnson Bank Classic.

The game was tied for just one minute and 21 seconds, as the Falcons controlled the game from the opening tipoff to the final horn. They built a double-digit lead with 8:42 to play in the first half and increased it to a game-high 33 point advantage with 30 seconds to play.

In all, 14 players saw action for CUW, as it finished with an impressive 58.6 percent shooting. They finished with a decisive 48-28 lead in paint scoring, 29-16 difference in points off turnovers and a 34-14 advantage in bench production. CUW also forced 23 turnovers.

Juniors Brett Boettcher (New Holstein, Wis.) and Bradley Prinsen (Oostburg) each tallied 15 points, while junior Keith Kahlfeldt and senior Mark Scholz (Greenfield, Wis.) had 11 points each. Freshman Trevor Krizenesky (Brillion, Wis.) ended with 10 points and sophomore Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) dished out a career-best eight assists, to go along with 10 points.

Kahlfeldt also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals to earn all-tournament honors.

Todd Brassow led MLC (0-2) with 17 points on 7-fo-12 shooting, while Luke Rothe recorded 13 points, five assists and four steals.

The Falcons blew the game wide open with a 16-5 scoring run during a five minute stretch to own a 37-22 lead. During the run, they forced three turnovers on three consecutive defensive possessions.

CUW led 46-33 at the intermission and scored 24 of its points in the paint. They also received 13 points from the bench and Kittel had 10 points and six assists through the first 20 minutes.

The lead quickly increased to 20 points just over a minute into the second half, before the Knights slowly chipped away at their deficit and got to within 17 points with 8:16 remaining in the game. CUW answered with a commanding 24-8 scoring run over the next eight minutes to put the game well out of reach.

The Falcons (1-1) return to action on Nov. 22 for a 5 p.m. non-conference game at UW-River Falls.
