Falcon men race past Edgewood 85-64

MADISON, Wis.-  Shawn Cassidy's Falcons, 10-6 overall, provided no opportunity for the host Edgewood Eagles to entertain upset thoughts, racing to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes on the way to a convincing win Thursday evening in Madison.

By halftime CUW had built an insurmountable 46-22 margin which just kept growing until the score stood at 79-47 with under six minutes to play.  By that time CUW third stringers were getting much-appreciated varsity game action.

Senior Steve Zielinski (Brown Deer, Wis.) scored 19 points, on 9-12 shooting, during a MONSTER first half and then watched younger teammates take over.  "Steve was absolutely dominating in the early going," praised Cassidy.  Those of us who have watched him develop over the past four years can't help but be very proud and happy for him."

The Falcons' 6'9 center scored 15 of CUW's first 18 points over a six minute span.

Mark Pace (Sr./ Milwaukee, Wis.) actually wound up leading CUW with a 20 point effort that included 6-6 from the floor.

The sizzling Falcons, now 7-2 in NAC play, were 33-55 from the floor collectively for a season-high 60% accuracy.  Twelve CUW players eventually got into the scoring column.

The Eagles, who live and die from distance, were just 7-29 from long range.  Several of those makes came in the closing minutes.  Brett Meineke was the only EC in double figures with 16.

Lakeland's loss to MSOE last evening opens a crack in the door for CUW, pulling the Falcons within a game of the Muskies.  CUW, 7-2 in the NAC, meets Lakeland 8-1 in conference, next Wednesday in the Buuck Fieldhouse.

Concordia hosts Dominican on Saturday at 4:15pm.
