MEQUON, Wis. -
Concordia University Wisconsin's men's basketball team and staff participated in the 14th Annual Mel's 5K Run on September 29th in Cedarburg.

Mel's Run began in 1999 when Blaine Bergmann lost his sister to cancer. The first event raised money for Blaine's niece, a Special Olympian. Ozaukee County Special Olympics was the recipient of $300 that first year and since then Mel's Pig Roast, Inc. has donated $206,550 to local charities.

"Saturday we had the privilege to participate in a great community event introduced to us by Luke Doedens and his family two years ago," explained CUW coach Shawn Cassidy.

"The players enjoyed the experience so much last year that we have decided to make this an annual event.  It is a great opportunity to join successful community leaders like Mel Stanton who demonstrates his passion and dedication to a great cause.  We are excited to have the Mel's Pig Roast committee and the Special Olympian of Ozaukee County as our honored guests at a CUW basketball game in January."
