2022-23 Moments of the Year (No. 6): Women’s Soccer Reclaims the NACC Crown

MEQUON, Wis. – The 2022-23 athletic year was another successful one for the Concordia Wisconsin Athletic Department. The Falcons won and contended for conference championships in many sports and put together an impressive list of great achievements. As in years past, the Department of Athletic Communications tries to sort through all the great moments and give you, the fans, top stories from the past year.

The list of stories was compiled by the Department of Athletic Communications and, like all lists, is subject to debate. The top stories will be revealed over the next few days, with stories being released on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The top story will be released on August 4.

On Nov. 6, the women's soccer team defeated the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech 1-0 in the NACC Tournament Finals to claim the program's fourth conference title joining the 2019, 2004, and 1998 teams.

Illinois Tech held most of the possession early in the match.

But the Falcons were able to capitalize in the 16th minute as junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) drew a foul outside the box. On the free kick, senior Jordan Lafferty (Surprise, Ariz.) sent a ball into the box, causing a few Scarlet Hawks to collide, sending the ball into the back of their own net, giving the Falcons the 1-0 lead.

The Scarlet Hawks continued to attack and outshot CUW 11-2 in the first half.

Illinois Tech continued to apply pressure in the second half but was held scoreless by Concordia as sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) added three saves in the second half, securing the 1-0 victory for the Falcons.

With the victory, the Falcons completed their 14th shutout of the season and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
