Wrestling competes at MSOE Invitational
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin had three wrestlers place at the difficult MSOE Invitational on Saturday afternoon inside the Kern Center. Matthew Saldana placed fifth, while Ramiro Vasquez and Mitchell Slatton ended in sixth for the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Matthew Saldana (Long Beach, Calif.) ended his day with a 3-2, which was good enough for a fifth-place finish in the 125-pound weight bracket. He began his day with a loss before defeat Josiah Krason (Wheaton) by major decision, 13-2, prior to winning by technical fall, 15-0, against Mark Niewierowski (MSOE). Saldana was pinned before ending his day with a forfeit win to take fifth place.
- Sophomore Ramiro Vasquez (Yuma, Ariz.) recorded a 2-3 record to take sixth place as a 133 pounder. He began his day with success, defeat Angel Rios Jr. (Millikin) by decision, 15-9, and earning a 19-4 technical fall victory over Preston Makoutz (MSOE). Hard times than fell upon him with three-straight losses.
- Senior Mitchell Slatton (Granger, Ind.) tabulated a 2-3 record to take sixth place at 197 pounds. The Falcons leader began his day with a 4-0 decision win against Jordan Lemcke (UW-Oshkosh), followed by a pin in 2:07 over Duncan Heath (MSOE). The day turned difficult with back-to-back losses before winning by medical forfeit to end the tournament in sixth place.
- Junior Miguel Betancourt (El Paso, Texas) had a win by fall in 4:54 over Andrew Harrell (Wheaton) at 149 pounds.
- Junior Eric Martinson (Milwaukee, Wis.) won by major decision, 16-5, against Evan Carter (MSOE) in one of his 165 pound bouts.
- Sophomore Alex Montibrand (Barlett, Ill.) earned a win by fall in 4:19 over Demetrius Smith (MSOE) at 174 pounds.
- Freshman Merrick O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) had a 13-7 decision win versus Austin Hawes (Hannibal La-Grange) at 184 pounds.
- Senior Mac Baylock (Marietta, Ga.) added a 20-8 major decision victory against Sebastian Hyta (St. Olaf) to his season results.
