Sobrilsky sets home run mark, Softball secures NACC two seed

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Carly Sobrilsky now sits alone atop the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball career home run leaders list. Sobrilsky belted a two-run home run in the seventh inning of a game one win over Concordia University Chicago giving her 25 in her career. The Falcons split Monday, winning the opener, 10-1, before falling by a 4-3 score in game two. In the process, CUW secured the No. 2 seed in the NACC Tournament which is set to begin Thursday.

THE BASICS
- Final Scores: CUW 10, CUC 1; CUC 4, CUW 3
- Location: CUC Softball Field – River Forest, Illinois
- Records: CUW 28-10, 17-5 NACC; CUC 24-16, 13-9 NACC

CUW 10, CUC 1 (GAME ONE)
- The Falcons pounded out 13 hits and did most of their damage in the final two innings in game one. CUW scored five times in the sixth and added three more in the seventh, two coming on Sobrilsky's (Brookfield, Wis.) program-record 25th home run.

- Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) got the Falcons going early on Monday as she hit a leadoff home run. Zazas finished the game with two hits and two runs scored while Sobrilsky paced the team with a 3-for-4, four-RBI performance. Lexi Holsten (Oshkosh, Wis.) and Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.) each added three hits and all four players doubled in the nine-run win.

- Emily Brekke (Waterford, Wis.) was once again in control in the circle for the Falcons. Brekke allowed just two hits and one run in her 17th win of the season. She finished the game with six strikeouts compared to three walks.

CUC 4, CUW 3 (GAME TWO)
- The Cougars rallied for a game two win, making the Falcons settle for a split in the twinbill. After the Falcons took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI double by Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.), the Cougars responded with runs in the fifth and sixth for the one-run win.

- The tying run in the bottom of the fifth was aided by one of three Falcons errors in game two. CUC won the game in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Allison Kruk.

- O'Connell started the game in the circle and delivered four innings, allowing two runs, one earned. Brekke threw the final three innings and also gave up a pair of runs, one of those earned. Brekke struck out three Cougars while O'Connell tallied a pair of strikeouts. Marita Van Dyke went the distance for Concordia Chicago, giving up three runs, two earned, with six strikeouts.

- Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) tallied two hits for the Falcons in game two, the only player with multiple hits. Holsten drove in the first run of the game for CUW, a RBI groundout in the second.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Sobrilsky entered the doubleheader tied with Cara Landherr (2010-13) with 24 career home runs. The Falcons catcher hit 10 home runs her sophomore season, six this year, five her junior campaign, and four in her rookie season. She has 125 RBIs in her career as well.

- CUW could still gain a share of the NACC Regular Season title. The Falcons need Dominican to sweep Benedictine tomorrow night for that to happen. Due to tiebreaking scenarios, Benedictine has already wrapped up the No. 1 seed. MSOE, who also finished 17-5 in the NACC, will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will play at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Alverno Field in Milwaukee. CUW will take on the winner of MSOE and whoever is the No. 6 seed in the league tournament, either Concordia Chicago or Marian.
