Win Streak Hits Five Games as Falcons Rout Warriors

WAUWATOSA, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin softball team put away the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the day's doubleheader. The Falcons dominated both showings, allowing one just hit in the first outing before plating eleven runs in the second. The pair of victories grew Concordia's winnings streak to five games while improving the team's conference record to 9-3.

The first game saw a scoreless tie through the opening four frames, as each team was only able to collect a single hit. However, the Falcons cracked into the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, as junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) put a ball into left field to send senior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) across home plate.

After a quick bottom half of the frame and a scoreless sixth, Concordia assembled a deluge of insurance runs in the seventh inning, bumping its advantage to six. Junior Jess Pozezkinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) sent a home run over the center field fence on the second pitch of the inning, while senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and Bloyer collected hits in the following at-bats. Junior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then cleared the bases with her sixth home run of the season, which granted the Falcons a 5-0 lead. The Falcons would ultimately send nine batters to the plate in the inning, but not before senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) added to the scoring run with an RBI of her own.

Junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) earned a quick three outs to end the game, securing her first-career complete-game shutout. The contest also saw Martinez lower her WHIP to a team-best 1.12 in the 2024 season.

The Falcons similarly managed to win by six in the second game of the day, but did so by scoring eleven runs. Much like the first bout, Concordia struck first on the scoreboard, plating three runs in the second inning. Martinez earned the opening RBI of the contest before Erdmann sent a ball up the middle to grant the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

The Warriors snatched one run back in the inning, but the Falcons expanded their lead in the fourth, as Erdmann and Wheat each picked up RBIs. Freeze then brought two more runs across home in the following inning by way of a single to left field.

Concordia scored a trio of unearned runs in the sixth inning, as Pozezinski, Bloyer and Freeze made their way across the plate to push the lead to nine.

Pozezinski and Erdmann put their names on the scoresheet once more before the end of the game, as the former batted in the latter in the seventh with a single to left field.

The Warriors attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, but the Falcons thwarted the effort as the game concluded with a strikeout by freshman Gianna Carone (Crystal Lake, Ill.).

Freeze collected the win for Concordia on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing just two earned runs.

The Falcons will look to grow their winning streak in their next set of contests on April 24 against the 14-12 Marian Sabres.
