Brekke lands second NACC weekly award of season

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Junior Emily Brekke has had an outstanding first half of the 2017 season. The Falcons ace, who posted three wins last week, was named the NACC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year, the league office announced Monday.

Brekke (Waterford, Wis.) went 3-0 with 21 strikeouts over 19 innings last week. On Sunday, in the Falcons NACC-opening doubleheader against Lakeland, Brekke tossed 14 innings, seven in each contest, for a total of 206 pitches, helping the Falcons to a sweep. In game one of that doubleheader, she took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and allowed two hits in a 2-1 complete game victory.

In game two against the Muskies, Brekke came on in the fifth inning and threw the final seven frames of a 5-4, 11-inning victory. She finished the day against Lakeland with 15 punch outs in 14 innings of work. Brekke now leads the NACC with a 1.53 ERA, while ranking second in strikeouts with 61.

Brekke and the Falcons had their doubleheader against UW-Platteville postponed today, so they will next play at Dominican for two games on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
