Falcons Finish Perfect in Conference Play

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW ACHA team finished its final conference matchup on Saturday night with a matchup against the Blue Demons of DePaul.

The Blue and White opened the matchup with two goals in the first period. Senior Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) got the matchup rocking and rolling with a goal in the 14th minute of play. The rebound goal was unassisted. Fellow senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) netted the second goal of the matchup in the 18th minute off assists from seniors Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.).

Senior Mack Willy (Tacoma, Wash.) collected eight saves in the first period.

The Falcons opened the second period just over a minute into the frame with a rebound goal from Way. He was assisted by junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.). Just under four minutes later, sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) took advantage of a one-on-none opportunity and netted the fourth Falcon goal of the matchup. He was assisted by junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) and Gregor.

The Blue Demons netted their first goal of the matchup late in the second period on a powerplay.

The second period ended with the Falcons on top by a 4-1 score.

The Blue Demons opened the third period with a goal just eight seconds into the period to cut their deficit to two. They scored just over four minutes later on the powerplay to cut the Falcon lead to one.

Weiss netted the first Falcon goal of the third period on a powerplay in the 10th minute of the frame to take the 5-3 lead. He was assisted by Malcolmson and Way.
with the goalie pulled, the Falcons netted the dagger off the stick of senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) to take the 6-4 lead and claim their first-ever perfect, conference regular season.

Willy finished with 33 saves in the contest.

The Blue and White look to clinch an auto-bid into ACHA Nationals with a victory against St. Thomas next weekend.
