Falcons Extend Win Streak to Six

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The CUW ACHA team took on the 14th-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds on Friday night in the first of an away doubleheader.

The Blugolds and the Falcons skated the first period to a draw.

The Falcons netted the first three goals of the matchup in the first 10 minutes of the second period. 

Senior Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) got the ball rolling with a powerplay goal with assists from fellow seniors Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) and Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.).  

Senior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.) found junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) for the second goal of the matchup.  

Junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.) netted his first goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) to claim the 3-0 lead.

The Blugolds netted their only goal with eight seconds left in the second period to cut the Falcon lead to two.

The Blue and White recorded three goals in the final frame to take home the 6-1 victory.

Sam Weiss and Lucas Kreuser found fellow senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) in the third minute of the third period to take the 4-1 lead.

On a powerplay, senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) netted an unassisted goal to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Weiss closed out the matchup with a goal off assists from Malcolmson and Kreuser.

Senior Mack Willy (Tacoma, Wash.) recorded 36 saves in the matchup.

The Falcons look to sweep the series on Saturday and finish perfect in the month of December.
