Falcons Snag No. 9 Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The CUW ACHA team traveled to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin on Thursday night to take on the Marian Sabres.

The Falcons netted the first goal off the stick of Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.)

The Sabres netted two of their own goals and took the lead heading into the first break.

The Falcons came out hot with a goal just 22 seconds into the second period off the stick of junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.) after a pass right across the crease from senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).  Senior Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.) also added an assist on the goal.  The Blue and White netted another goal just over three minutes later with Malcolmson finding sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) in front of the net for a knockdown goal.

Senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) netted his first goal of the matchup after beating the goalie on the weak side off a pass from seniors Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Dyball.

Senior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded the last Falcon goal of the second period with five minutes remaining off a play in front of the net.

The Sabres and the Falcons headed into the final frame with the flock up 5-3.

The Sabres tied the matchup at five in the fourth minute of the third period.

The Falcons responded with three unanswered goals to put the game out of reach of the Sabres.  Both Kreuser and Way found the top shelf in the third for the first two goals.  Kreuser was assisted by Weiss and Way was assisted by senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) and Kreuser.  Malcolmson netted the empty-net goal to seal the deal for the Blue and White.

The teams will face off inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Friday afternoon where the Falcons look to remain perfect.
