ACHA Ends Weekend Trip on High Note

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The CUW ACHA team wrapped up their trip to Missouri on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against Maryville.

The Falcons lit the lamp just four seconds in with a goal from senior Alex Way (Ottowa, Ont.).  Way was assisted by fellow seniors Lucas Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.).

The Saints evened the score at one just three minutes later.

A pair of Falcon goals 30 seconds apart at the 13-minute mark put the Falcons up by a 3-1 score.  The first goal was sent past the netminder by senior Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.) with assists from sophomore Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.).  The second goal was netted by sophomore Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).  Cassel was assisted by senior Jacob Palmerio (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).

The Blue and White tallied another goal with nine minutes remaining in the first period to push their lead out to three.  Senior Connor Doyle (Naples, Fla.) netted his first goal of the young season with assists from junior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) and senior Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.).

Two minutes later, the Saints cut into the Falcon lead with a goal that pushed the score to 4-2 in favor of the flock.

The Saints took the lead with three quick goals to start the second period.

The Falcons were not phased and netted a trio of their own in the last five minutes of the period.  Senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) slid the first past the Saints goalie after a feed from both junior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.) and Sam Weiss.  Cassel sunk his second goal of the matchup after senior Easton Williams (Racine, Wis.) recorded his first point of the season on the assist as well as Palmerio.  The eventual game-winning goal was scored by Malcolmson on the powerplay with Palmerio recording his third assist of the game.

The Blue and White went into the second intermission with a 7-5 lead.

The flock came out hot in the third period with three more goals early in the final frame.  Doyle netted his second goal of the game unassisted to start off the third.  Palmerio recorded his fourth point of the matchup with the second goal of the third period after a feed from Staudacher.  Kreuser finished off the scoring from the Blue and White with assists from senior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) and Sam Weiss.

The Saints netted their sixth of the matchup with three minutes left in the game but were overwhelmed by the Falcon defense the rest of the way.

The Blue and White are now 2-1-0 following a loss and 2-3-0 overall.

Senior Mack Willy recorded 27 saves in his 60 minutes between the posts.

The Falcons are looking forward to their home opener against Lewis on Saturday inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
