Women's Soccer plays to scoreless draw with Dominican

MEQUON, Wis. – Two of the top teams in the NACC met on the pitch in Women's Soccer action Saturday at Fitting Field as Concordia University Wisconsin battled Dominican. After 110 minutes of play, the Falcons and Stars settled for a scoreless draw as defense was the story Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams ended the match with four shots on goal, each having a few opportunities on Saturday. Both keepers did their part, including the Falcons Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.), who finished with four saves. Abbey Brown matched her counterpart with four saves for the Stars.

- The first half-plus was played in difficult conditions as rain started falling in the Mequon area right before kickoff. The rain stopped midway through the second half and both teams saw more scoring opportunities from that point on. 

- The Stars finished with a couple more opportunities on corner kicks, tallying six compared to four for the Falcons. Each team had one corner kick in the first overtime session, while all the other corners happened in the second half.

- Freshman Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.) finished with a team-best three shots for the Falcons. One of her shots went on goal, as Anna Knueppel (Germantown, Wis.), Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.), and Ashley Johnson (Chesterfield, Mich.) added shots on goal for the Falcons.

- Tania Paez paced the Stars with three shots, one on goal. Josseline Williams, who entered play as the NACC's leading scorer, was shut down by the Falcons defense on Saturday. Williams finished with two shots.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Any time a team records a shutout, it takes a strong effort from everyone, especially the midfielders and defense. The Falcons received strong play from its back line, along with the midfield on Saturday. Dominican was averaging 2.8 goals per NACC contest. Saturday also marked just the second time Dominican had been shut out this season.

- The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Falcons and third complete shutout for Ortiz. She split time with two other keepers in the Falcons last shutout, a 4-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran.

- The Falcons will return to the pitch tomorrow when they visit UW-La Crosse for a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
