Knueppel's second-half score leads Women's Soccer past Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -  Anna Knueppel's scored her first career collegiate goal in the second half, helping the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference win over Lake Forest Saturday. Knueppel's game-winner came in the 62nd minute.

THE BASICS
- Final Score:
Concordia Wisconsin 2, Lake Forest 1
- Location: Farwell Field – Lake Forest, Illinois
- Records: CUW 1-2-2; Lake Forest 2-5-0

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons got going quickly as Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied her second goal in as many matches. Her score came in the sixth minute and was unassisted, putting CUW up 1-0.

- Lake Forest responded 20 minutes later on a score from Shari Jacobsen. Lexi Vargas and Sangjun Hornewer assisted on the only Foresters score of the afternoon.

- Knueppel (Germantown, Wis.) picked a good time for her first career collegiate goal, the lone goal of the second half and the game-winner. Her score came in the 62nd minute and helped CUW to its first win of the 2017 season.

- Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) was once again outstanding at keeper for the Falcons. Ortiz made eight saves, including six in a perfect second half to help keep CUW ahead. Her counterpart, Paige Thiel, had six saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- One-goal matches did not go the Falcons way in 2016, so Saturday's result was a good building block moving into conference play. CUW was 1-9-0 in one-goal matches last season, and also dropped a one-goal contest in the opener against Concordia Ann Arbor.

- Ortiz has been on her game all season for the Falcons. Through five matches, the senior keeper has a solid .833 save percentage and has made 40 saves - eight per contest.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons open conference play Wednesday with a home match against Marian. Action from Fitting Field is set to start at 4 p.m.
