Women's Basketball announces postseason awards at banquet

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin's Women's Basketball team celebrated its 2015-16 season and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season title this past weekend with a postseason banquet. The Falcons also handed out awards for the season and celebrated its senior class.

CUW finished with a 20-6 overall record and a 17-3 record in NACC play, won the NACC regular season title and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NACC Tournament. In addition, senior Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) and sophomore Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) were named All-NACC First Team, respectively, for their efforts.

As well, the program celebrated the careers of Landgraf and senior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.).

Below are the Falcons awards from the 2015-16 season:

Team MVP: Madelyn Landgraf (senior, Elkhart Lake, Wis.) – Landgraf, one of the captains this past season, was also voted as the team MVP. She finished the year with a team-best 364 points (14.0 per game), as well as team-highs in field goal attempts (286), field goals made (112), 3-point field goal attempts (111), 3-point field goals made (27), free throw attempts (142), free throws made (113), steals (48) and minutes played (785 - 30.2 per game).

Landgraf also became a 1,000 point scorer and set the single season record for free throws made (113). She also finished her career second all-time with 306 free throws made and set the program's single game record with 16 free throws made in victory at Concordia Chicago (Jan. 29).

Defensive Player of the Year: Samantha Blissett (junior, Springfield, Ill.) – Blissett ended the season with 43 steals, 11 blocks, 83 rebounds, 165 points and a team-high 77 assists. She was asked each game to defend the opposition's best offensive player.

Most Improved Player of the Year: Baylee Barker (freshman, Oconomowoc, Wis. ) – Barker entered her rookie season coming off the bench, but eventually started 12-consecutive games during the second half of the season as the team's point guard. She ended the season with 151 points, 24 assists, 11 steals and shot 77.5 percent (31-of-40) at the free throw line.

Newcomer of the Year: Marciarae' Harmon (freshman, Milwaukee, Wis.) – Harmon improved throughout the season and took on a great deal of responsibility after starting the first 11 games of the season as the team's point guard. She scored 124 points, grabbed 61 rebounds, dished out 24 assists and stole 23 passes. The rookie concluded the season (last three games) with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting (62.5 percent).

Teammate of the Year: Megan Coenen (senior, Green Bay, Wis.) – Coenen was asked throughout the last two years to guide a youthful group of forwards day-in and day-out. She also helped the underclassmen adjust to the collegiate style of the game. Coenen ended her career as one of the most consistent players in program history, playing in 107-consecutive games and making 78 starts. She is the only player in program history to score of 900 points, grab over 500 rebounds and shoot at least 49 percent.

Scout Team Player of the Year: Samantha Erdman (sophomore, Oak Creek, Wis.) – Erdman used her knowledge and talent to run the upcoming opponent's playbook so the team could prepare for what was to come. She also appeared in six games and scored three points.

Co-Varsity Reserve Players of the Year: Sophomore Elizabeth Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) and sophomore Kelsey Mazur (Reedsburg, Wis.) led the varsity reserve team throughout the season on and off the court. Hafemann played multiple positions and continually had the team organized. Mazur also played and guarded multiple positions, handled the ball and was a leader with a constant positive attitude.
