Women's Basketball shocked by buzzer-beater at Aurora

AURORA, Ill. – Just days after Concordia Wisconsin won on an epic buzzer-beater, Aurora shocked the Falcons with a tip-in before the final horn sounded on Saturday afternoon for a 55-54 victory inside Thornton Gymasnium.

THE BASICS
Final Score:
Aurora 55, Concordia Wisconsin 54
Location: Thornton Gymnasium (Aurora, Ill.)
Records: Aurora 14-9 (13-5 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin 18-5 (15-3 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bethany Dorrington drove to the lane and put up a jumper from six feet that banged off the backboard, but Ashley Wilk tipped in the game-winning buzzer-beater inside the paint just before the horn sounded.
- Prior to the chaos, senior Madelyn Landgraf drove the rim and was fouled. She then made a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining to put the Falcons in front 54-53. A timeout by Aurora allowed them to advance the ball in front of their bench.
- The game was close throughout, as there were 12 lead changes and five scoring ties. Neither team shot well from downtown, a combined 4-of-25, but CUW held a 26-15 edge in points in the paint. As well, the Falcons bench outscored the Spartans reserves 29-10.
- Junior Taylor DeLong (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Falcons with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting off the bench, to go along with five rebounds. Landgraf (senior, Elkhart Lake, Wis.) added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Sophomore Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) ended with nine points and five rebounds, while junior Samantha Blissett (Springfield, Ill.) recorded two points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss moves the Falcons back into a tie with Wisconsin Lutheran for first place in the NACC standings. CUW holds the tiebreaking difference via its two wins over the Warriors.
- Landgraf broke the program's record for free throws in a season (108), which she set last year.

- Mallory Cast tallied 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a game-high three steals.
