Landgraf scores career-high 23 points, Falcons cruise past Stars

MEQUON, Wis. – Madelyn Landgraf had a career night with 23 points to lead Concordia University Wisconsin to a 66-46 victory over Dominican University on Wednesday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The Falcons took control of the game with a 22-6 run over the last 12 minutes of the first half.

CUW struggled in the opening minutes, shooting 2-of-7, before catching fire and owning all momentum in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Falcons forced 24 turnovers and converted those errors into 30 points, while also outrebounding the Stars 40-30 in the lopsided contest.

Landgraf (junior, Elkhart Lake, Wis.) drained four 3-pointers and was the offensive spark the Falcons needed offensively to keep them in the race for the top spot in the NACC standings. CUW outscored the short-handed Stars 38-22 in the paint and its bench held a 24-7 advantage.

Freshman Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 23 minutes off the bench for CUW. Freshman Audrey Scharmer (Winona, Minn.) added eight points and eight rebounds, four offensive, while junior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) tallied five points and eight rebounds, three offensive. Freshman Corrina Terrano (Phoenix, Ariz.) grabbed a career-high-tying six rebounds.

Sidney Montaro led the Stars (1-14, 0-10 NACC) with 15 points and five rebounds, while Shamia Clark scored 12 points. Allie Tapenes added eight points and two blocks.

There were two scoring ties and five lead changes in the first eight minutes of the game, before the Falcons offensive caught fire. After an 11-11 tie, they scored 23 of the next 27 points to put the game out of reach. CUW led 34-17 at halftime behind 10 points from Landgraf.

The Falcons lead reached a maximum of 21 points with one minute and 20 seconds to play after sophomore Taylor DeLong made a layup. CUW grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and stole 13 passes in the game.

CUW (11-3, 8-3 NACC) returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rockford University.
