Women's Basketball cruises by Maranatha Baptist

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had three players score in double-figures on Monday, as they cruised past Maranatha Baptist University, 82-34, in a non-conference game.

It was the first time this season the Falcons eclipsed the 80-point plateau and the third-consecutive win over the Sabercats. In all, head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones was able to play 15 players in the lopsided victory.

"It was nice to play everyone and get a win like that," Brunner-Jones said. "I am particularly happy with our defensive effort and how consistent we were for 40 minutes."

CUW (7-2) shot a season-best 47.2 percent and committed a season-low six turnovers, while forcing 24 MBU turnovers and scoring 29 points off those errors. The Falcons also hauled in 18 offensive rebounds and turned those into 18 second chance points. CUW dominated the paint, with a 38-12 scoring advantage.

Freshman Corrina Terrano (Phoenix, Ariz.) who made her third-straight start, scored a career-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Junior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) tallied 14 points and junior Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) finished with 12 points. Freshman Audrey Scharmer (Winona, Minn.) had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) stood out among the reserves with eight points, six rebounds, three assists, steal and a block in 13 minutes.

Courtney Dunn led the Sabercats with nine points, while Stacy Reinke had eight points and eight rebounds. Stacie Ross and Lexi Johnson each added six points.

The Falcons charged out to a 16-point advantage, 23-7, midway through the opening 20 minutes of play before taking a 42-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

During the second half, each Falcon played less than 10 minutes as 11 found the scoring column. They held the Sabercats to 20.0 percent shooting (5-of-25) and 15 points, which is the lowest point production in a half by an opponent this season.

Freshman Danika Tramburg (Hubertus, Wis.) scored her first career points on a jumper midway through the second half and sophomore Mallory Wesley (South Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied her first career field goal after making a jumper three minutes later. Freshman Taryn Ciochon (Janesville, Wis.) netted her first career points on a layup with 2:49 to play in the game, as did freshman Erin Quam (Sheboygan, Wis.) on a layup with 2:20 remaining in the contest.

CUW returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game against Aurora University inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
