Esports Faces Tough Competition

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports program closed out October, facing some formidable competition across the country, posting a 3-7 record on the week after two consecutive weeks of winning records.

Monday, Oct. 23rd, saw the Valorant team secure the 2-0 victory in their only competition of the week over the Vikings of Grand View University. Also on Monday was Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The SSBU squad suffered two 2-0 losses to Husson and Penn State Behrend University.

The Falcons returned to the win column on Tuesday, as the Super Smash Bros Ultimate team bounced back and took down the Panthers of North Iowa to improve to 3-1 on the year in NECC play. Later in the night, the Rainbow Six Siege improved their record to 2-2 on the year when they took the close 2-1 victory over Northwood University, putting them in a position to qualify for one of the final spots in Rainbow Six Siege playoffs.

CUW fell twice on Wednesday, Oct. 25th, as the League of Legends team lost 2-0 to UW-River Falls, while the NBA 2K team was dropped by the New England Institute of Technology 3-1.

Thursday saw the Falcons take on the Tigers of the University of Missouri. The Blue and White went to a full five games against Missouri but ultimately fell short, 3-2, dropping their record to 1-3.

Esports closed the week on Friday, taking on two tough opponents in Valporaiso and Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Rocket League fell 3-0 to Valparaiso, while the Southwestern Assemblies of God defeated CUW's Call of Duty squad.

"This was a challenging week. We had a lot of difficult matchups and fell behind. A lot of good came out this week as well, though. The games we won were against some extremely well-known teams, and I'm proud of those wins. We're looking to get after it this week," said head coach Jack Slater of his team's performance.

The Falcons will move ahead to next week, as seven different games are slated to compete.
