Esports Opens 2023-24 Campaign

MEQUON, Wis. – Esports is back! In their first week of competition, the Concordia University Wisconsin esports team posted an overall 4-5 record.

On Monday, Sept. 25th, CUW's Valorant team secured a 2-1 overtime victory over the University of Illinois.

Tuesday saw the Super Smash Bros Ultimate squad claim the 2-0 victory over UW-River Falls.

Tuesday also saw the reigning national champion Rainbow Six Siege squad come from behind to win in overtime over the Racers of Murray State.

The League of Legends team opened their season with a bang on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, silencing Northern Illinois University and taking home the 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile, the Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Overwatch teams suffered their first losses of the year. The SSBU team fell to both Husson University and St. Peter's University 2-0, while the Overwatch lost 3-0 to Valparaiso University.

Friday saw Rocket League make their 2023-24 debut against Indiana University Kokomo. In the hard-fought contest, the Falcons fell 3-0.

Rounding out the week was CUW's Call of Duty team. Newberry College would get the best of the Blue and White, taking the 3-0 win over Concordia.

"This is going to be a good year. We have more new faces than we've had in the past, and we're just throwing them into the fire here at the highest level of collegiate esports. We're working on mitigating the learning curve for the new students and helping them settle into place. I'm looking forward to the coming weeks," said head Jack Slater following his team's week one performance.

The Falcons will look to improve and resume competition next week as the Call of Duty, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Rainbow Six Siege all have contests scheduled.
