MEQUON, Wis. - The 2023 campaign saw the CUW baseball team finish with an overall record of 21-18, where they were 12-12 in NACC play.
After starting the year with a competitive three-game series in Texas versus No. 10 Trinity, the Falcons again traveled south for spring break to Tucson, Arizona.
On their first day of spring break ball, the Falcons went 2-0 with a 12-11 win over Carthage and a whopping 29-8 win over Hamline, where senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.), junior Jimmy Juergensen (Cedarburg, Wis.) and freshman Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis) all hit home runs.
The following day, on March 13, the Falcons swept Ausburg, taking the first game with a walk-off single from Jimmy Juergensen.
The Blue and White continued their exceptional play in Tucson and eventually extended their win streak to seven games following a win over Macalester and a sweep against Carleton.
CUW finished their spring break trip in Arizona with a record of 8-1. Johannes Haakenson was named to D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week for his exceptional play as he totaled nine hits, including three triples and a home run, and eight RBIs with three stolen bases in five games. Meanwhile, Jimmy Juergensen claimed his first NACC Student-Athlete of the Week honors, totaling his Arizona campaign with a .630 batting average on 17 hits with 12 RBIs and 11 runs.
Two days following their trip, the Falcons returned to Wisconsin and faced Division I opponent UW-Milwaukee in a close battle between the two schools.
On April 3, the Falcons embarked on their conference regular season, where they split with Edgewood, as the Falcons took the second game 8-5.
A week later, the Falcons swept their first NACC series sweep of the season as CUW beat Rockford 5-2 and 7-5, which earned head coach Eddy Morgan his 200th and 201st career win as a Falcon.
From April 23-May 3, the Blue and White won six of their eight games, including a sweep of St. Norbert and Lakeland. Senior pitcher Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) threw a complete game no-hitter in the first game of the Lakeland doubleheader. Another notable pitching performance during this time came courtesy of junior Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) who completed the complete game shutout against Marian on April 26 to take the 11-0 win.
In the last week of the regular season, the Falcons faced tough competition as they took on No. 6 Aurora. Despite falling to the Spartans, the Falcons led eight of the ten innings in that second contest.
In total, the Falcons went 9-3 in the second game of the doubleheader versus NACC opponents.
For their exceptional play throughout the regular season, five Falcons claimed All-NACC Honors. Seniors Ryan Green and Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) both took All-NACC Second Team, while Jimmy Juergensen, Johannes Haakenson, and senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) claimed All-NACC Honorable Mention honors.
