Falcons Slashed by No. 6 Spartans

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW baseball team took on the sixth-ranked Spartans in their second doubleheader of the weekend.

The Spartans took the series with scores of 8-4 and 8-7 in 10 innings.

In game one, senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) scored the first Falcon run in the bottom of the first inning. on a junior Jimmy Juergensen (Cedarburg, Wis.) fielders choice.

Juergensen singled to right field which allowed senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) to cross the plate.

The Spartans walked two runs in with one in the bottom of the eighth inning and one in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Sophomore Kyle Flynn (Nashville, Tenn.) crossed the plate in the eighth, and senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) crossed in the ninth.

Senior Andrew Javoroski (Brown Deer, Wis.) struck out four batters in his three-inning, relief outing.

Game two was a battle till the end with an extra-inning, Spartan win.

Haakenson crossed the plate off a Juergensen double in the bottom of the first inning for the first Falcon run of game two. 

In the bottom of the second inning, Haakenson tripled to left center to score sophomore Josh Aguiniga (Chicago, Ill.) and senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis).  Haakenson crossed the plate later in the inning off a single up the middle from senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.).

The Falcons led 4-3 heading into the ninth inning.

The Spartans scored five runs in the top of the ninth to force the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom half of the ninth inning, Hahn and Tillmon crossed the plate on a walk and hit by pitch for two Falcon runs.  Sophomore Brynden Cleveland (Crestwood, Ill.) singled down the left-field line to score senior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.).

The Spartans claimed a victory with a home run in the top of the tenth inning.

Junior Jack Hribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) pitched seven innings and allowed two runs.

The Falcons take on the Benedictine Eagles on Sunday for their final conference doubleheader of the season.
