Women's Track & Field Takes Fifth at Marquette

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track & field team took on some strong competition at the Marquette Invitational on Saturday. The Blue and White finished in fifth place with 68 points against NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA competition. The host Golden Eagles won with 208 points.

The Falcons soared to 19 points in the 5000-meter run. Senior LeNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) was the individual champion with a career-best time of 18:11.94. Junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) was fourth at 19:02.09, freshman Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) was seventh at 19:49.63 and senior Micah Hill (Camdenton, Mo.) was 11th at 20:51.50.

Senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) placed third in the 200-meter dash at 26.73 with senior Madison Chiappetta (Lenexa, Kan.) in 13th place at 28.93 with a personal-best time.

The Blue and White brought in 15 points in the steeplechase on Saturday with a back-to-back-to-back finish. In fourth place was Anessa Yim at 12:02.82 with a career-best time. Freshman Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) was fifth at 12:25.58 and junior Abigail Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) was sixth at 13:26.50.

Freshman Sarah Fox (Rochester, Minn.) was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:17.49.

Jenna Zahorik led the flock in the 100-meter dash at 13.17 in sixth place. Senior Lauren Nemitz (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished in 14th place at 13.93.

CUW landed a trio in the top 10 of the pole vault on Saturday. Freshman Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) was sixth at 3.16 meters for a personal-best mark, senior Paige Winterfeldt (Roseville, Minn.) was eighth at 3.01 meters and freshman Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) was 10th at 2.86 meters.

The CUW duo of freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) and senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) finished eighth and 15th respectively in the 1500-meter run at 5:05.03 and 5:31.18.

Sophomore Kalleigh Thorne (Bonduel, Wis.) was sixth in the triple jump at 9.49 meters and eighth in the long jump at 4.58 meters  Freshman Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) was seventh in the triple jump at 8.89 meters.

The discus throw saw freshman Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) finish seventh with a mark of 34.89 meters.

Senior Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.) led CUW in the shot put in eighth place at 10.17 meters and in the hammer throw in 10th place at 36.54 meters. She was also ninth in the discus at 33.21 meters.

In the 400-meter dash, Madison Chiappetta led CUW in ninth place at 1:06.91 and MaryGrace Cleinmark in 13th place at 1:11.31.

Junior Catherine Romine (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) led the flock in the javelin at 26.78 meters in sixth place and in long jump in 11th place at 4.17 meters. Senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) finished right behind in the javelin throw in seventh place at 26.20 meters.

Danielle Van Grinsven was 16th on the 800-meter run at 2:31.50.

The Falcons will have one last tune-up before the NACC Championships on Friday at the Wisconsin Whitewater Drake Alternative.
