Falcons Compete in Carthage Firebird Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Falcon women's Track and Field team competed at the Carthage Firebird Opener on Saturday.

As a team, the Falcons took third place with a score of 83 points, while host school Carthage College claimed first.

In the 55-meter dash, junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.)  placed seventh with a time of 7.69 seconds.

Senior Lauren Nemitz (Wauwatosa, Wis.) placed 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.71 seconds.

For the 400-meter dash, freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) placed fifth with a time of 1:07.30, earning the Falcons four points. Also, in the 400-meter dash, junior Naomi Gahan (Cedarburg, Wis.) placed seventh with a time of 1:09.86.

In the 800-meter dash, freshman Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) took first place with a 2:30.15, earning the Falcons 10 points. In the same event, sophomore Sarah Birenbaum (Cascade, Wis.) placed 10th with a time of 2:55.33.

In the 1-mile run, the Falcons had two athletes in the top three. Junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) placed second with a time of 5:39.12, while Abigail Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) placed third with a time of 5:47.43. In sixth was freshman Ainara Sainz de Rozas (Madrid, Spain) with a time of 5:59.59. From the 1-mile run, the Falcons earned 20 total points.

For the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) placed second with a time of 9.17. As a result, she earned Falcons eight points.

In the 4x400 meter relay, CUW's team placed fourth with a time of 4:35.74, a team which includes senior Madison Chiapetta (Lenexa, Kan.), junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) and senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.).

Maya Hielscher placed third in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.50 meters.

Senior Paige Winterfeldt (Roseville, Minn.) placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.65 meters.

In the long jump, freshman Amelia Wiener (North Fon du Lac, Wis.) placed tenth with 4.17 meters. Meanwhile, junior Catherine Romine (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) and senior Aubrey Thiede (Slinger, Wis.) placed 13th and 14th in the long jump.

A solid number of points for the Falcons were generated in the triple-jump event, where Paige Winterfeldt placed second with 9.20 meters, freshman Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) placed third with a distance of 8.88 meters, and Aubrey Theide placed fourth with a distance of 8.62 meters.

For shot-put, freshman Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) placed 11th and threw 9.36 meters.

The women's team looks forward from here to their competition at UW-White Whitewater at Karl Schlender Invitation slated for January 21st, 2023.
