Falcons Battle in Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track and field competed in the Beloit Relays meet hosted by Beloit College on Saturday, April 15th. 

In total the Falcons earned 85 points and tied for fifth place with Monmouth, while the Green Knights of St. Norbert College claimed first place.

The Falcons experienced tremendous success in the 10,000-meter run, where four of the top six spots belonged to CUW.

Senior LeNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) took first place with an impressive time of 39:37.91 seconds. In that race, Bartel held first place throughout the event. In second place was junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.), with a time of 41:02.43 seconds. The fourth and sixth spots were claimed by freshmen Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) and Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.). Sainz de Rosas took fourth with a time of 43:26.93 seconds, while Poehlman took sixth with a time of 45:35.74 seconds. 

The Falcons earned a whopping 26 points from the 10,000-meter run alone. 

In the 800-meter dash, freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) took first place with a time of 2:26.41, despite trailing in the first half of the race, earning the Falcons 10 points. In that same race, MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) took sixth place with a time of 2:39.99, earning three points for the Falcons. Combined, the Falcons received 13 points from the 800-meter event.

In the 4x100, the Falcons, whose relay is comprised of senior Hannah Ebel (Mount Clemens, Mich.), senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.), junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), and sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took third with a combined time of 50.09 seconds, helping the Falcons earn six team points. 

For the 4x400, CUW earned four points, placing sixth with a time of 4:38.95. The four runners in that event included MaryGrace Cleinmark, junior Abigail Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), freshman Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), and Danielle Van Grinsven.

Meanwhile, in the 100-meter hurdles, Maya Hielscher earned six points for the team, placing third with a time of 15.38 seconds. 

In the 100-meter sprint, Sabrina Moore and Jenna Zahorik placed sixth and seventh, respectively, with Moore finishing the race with a time of 12.87 seconds while Zahorik recorded a time of 12.88 seconds; the two runners combined for five team points. 

Jenna Zahorik also contributed points in the 200-meter dash, where she placed third overall with a time of 26.61 seconds, giving CUW six more points. 

In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Sarah Fox (Rochester, Minn.) was able to take home two points and place seventh with a time of 1:17.33 points. 

The Falcons collected seven total team points in the high-jump event courtesy of Maya Hielscher, who placed third, clearing a height of 1.58 meters. Also contributing a point to the Falcon's total was freshman Amelia Wiener (North Fon du Lac, Wis.) jumping a height of 1.43 meters. 

In the pole vault, freshman Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) placed seventh, clearing a height of 2.85 meters, giving CUW two points. 

Maya Hielscher continued her productive day in the throwing pit as she placed second, throwing a distance of 35.83 meters, giving the Falcons eight more points.

The Concordia Falcons look forward from here to their competition at the Marquette Invite in Wauwatosa, slated for next Saturday, April 22nd.
