Falcons Compete at Karl Schlender Invitational

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Falcon women's Track and Field team competed at the Karl Schlender Invitational on Saturday at UW-Whitewater.

As a team, the Falcons took fourth place with a score of 78.5 points, while host school UW-Whitewater claimed first.

The Falcons earned 29 points of their total points in the 5000-meter run. In that event, junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) placed first with a time of 19:22.07, while freshman Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) placed second with a time of 19:49.25. In third was freshman Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) with a time of 20.39.56, with freshman Ashley Mayer (Kaukauna, Wis.) with a time of 22:23.93.

In the long jump, CUW earned 15.5 points. Sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) placed first by jumping a distance of 5.42 meters, while sophomore Kalleigh Schroeder (Bonduel, Wis.) placed third with a distance of 4.78 meters.

Senior Hannah Ebel (Mount Clements, Mich.) added eight points to the Falcons' total score in the 60-meter hurdles when she placed second with a time of 10.27 seconds.

In the women's 1 mile, freshman Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) placed second with a time of 5:29.15, which earned the Falcons eight points.

In the 200-meter dash, senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) placed fourth with a time of 27.63 seconds.

Adding five points to Falcons' score was the 4x400 meter relay, which placed fourth with a time of 4:59.36. Members of that relay include senior Rosa Roloff (Trevor, Wis.), freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.), junior Naomi Gahan (Cedarburg, Wis.), and freshman Melanie Arvis.

Combining for four points was Jenna Zahorik, who placed sixth with a time of 1:55.48, and fellow senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.), who placed eighth with a time of 1:56.26 seconds.

In the 60-meter dash, Maya Hielscher placed sixth in the event and earned CUW three points with a time of 8.19 seconds.

Freshman Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.75 seconds.

The women's team looks forward from here to their competition at the Dubuque Kenneth "Moco" Mercer Open in Iowa, slated for January 28th, 2023.
