CUW Women Open the NACC Championships in Third

RIPON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track & field team competed in the first day of the NACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Blue and White sit in third place with 35 points. St. Norbert leads with 68 points.

Sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) claimed the NACC crown in the long jump at 5.53 meters.

Junior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) won the silver medal in the 5000-meter run at 18:48.82. Freshman Abigail Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) was in sixth place at 19:27.59.

The team of junior Abby Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), freshman Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), freshman Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) and freshman Ainara Sainz De Rozas (Madrid, Spain) finished fifth in the distance medley relay at 13:38.23.

Three Falcons scored in the pole vault competition. Senior Paige Winterfeldt (Roseville, Minn.) and freshman Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) were fourth at 2.90 meters in fourth place. Freshman Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) was eighth at 275 meters.

Maya Hielscher qualified for the 60-meter hurdles in second place at 9.38.

The Falcons qualified three runners in the 60-meter dash. Maya Hielscher finished in fourth place at 8.10, junior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) was fifth at 8.12 and senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) was seventh at 8.19.

Freshman Maria Betancourt (Hialeah, Fla.) led CUW in the weight throw at 12.00 meters in 14th place.

The Falcons close the championships on Saturday.
