Women's Lacrosse falters in second half at Robert Morris

ARLINGTON Heights, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin held a two-goal lead at the intermission, but Robert Morris University turned up the defensive pressure in the second half en route to a 12-10 non-conference victory at Morris Field.

The Falcons twice scored three-consecutive goals in the opening 30 minutes of play and appeared to be in control. However, the Eagles' halftime pep talk worked as they scored six of the next seven goals, including four-straight, over the next 18 minutes to regain control, 12-9 with 12:12 to play.

Robert Morris also took advantage of a multitude of CUW yellow cards and tallied three woman-up goals. The play on the field was also filled with turnovers, 46 combined, and turned into a posession-type contest with just 13 successful clears combined. Shots on goal were also even at 19 apiece.

Senior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) was the offensive catalyst for the Falcons with a career-high-tying five goals, including two free-position markers. The midfielder also paced the defense with a program-record-tying five caused turnovers, to go along with three ground balls and a draw control win. Senior Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) finished the game with three assists and a goal, while freshman Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) recorded two goals in a return trip home.

Jennifer Smith led the Eagles (9-4) with four goals and an assist, while Taylor O'Gara had three goals and two assists. Mary Prunte also assisted on a trio of scores. Terra Ringo led all players with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Samantha Sellers won five draw controls and caused two turnovers.

There were six lead changes and five scoring ties in the back-and-forth contest. CUW held a two-goal lead at halftime, but Robert Morris' game-high lead was three goals with 12:12 to play in the game. The Falcons were whistled for four yellow cards, while the Eagles had two yellow card infractions.

CUW returns to action on Saturday for a 1 pm game at the University of Mount Union.
