Balanced scoring leads Women's Lacrosse to season-opening victory

WAUKESHA, WIs. – Concordia University Wisconsin began the game with 15-consecutive goals en route to a commanding 21-1 season-opening non-conference victory over Carroll University at Schneider Field.

The Falcons dominated every statistical category; including 55-21 in ground balls, 29-4 in shots on goal, 20-4 in draw control wins. Their 21 goals was tied for the third most in a single game in program history, while the 55 ground balls were the second most ever picked up. CUW also scored 3-of-8 free position attempts, all in in the second half.

The Falcons had their most balanced scoring game in program history with 16 players finding the back of the net. Senior Steph Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) led the offense with a trio of goals, while three others players scored twice.

Senior Hannah Aton (Columbus, Ind.), junior Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) and freshman Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) each scored twice, while Kurek also recorded two assists, picked up 10 ground balls and won five draw controls. Senior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) ended with a game-high 11 ground balls and four draw control wins, which is the fifth most by an individual in program history. Freshman Amanda McKay (Portland, Ore.) finished with a goal, two assists, nine ground balls, four draw control wins and two caused turnovers.

Senior Rebecca David (Oregon, Wis.) played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made three saves in the win, while her counterpart Mary Kathryn Williams stopped eight shots on goal.

Donna January scored the only goal for Carroll, a first-year program.

CUW hosts DePauw University on Saturday at 4 pm at Fitting Field in the home opener.
