Men's Soccer falls in NACC Semifinals

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team dropped a NACC Tournament Semifinal match Tuesday, 3-2, against MSOE. The loss ends the NACC Regular Champion Falcons season with an 11-4-3 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match was tied 1-1 entering halftime but the Raiders struck twice in the first 13:09 of the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The first was by Tim Engle in the 54th minute, a goal that was nearly saved by a Falcons defender but was just able to get to the goal. Later, Mikey Perez struck from 20 yards out with a perfectly placed kick in the top right corner.
- From there MSOE went into a defensive mode, mostly playing eight to nine players back in their own defensive zone. The Falcons caught a break on a handball in the box with 3:59 left in the match and Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) converted the penalty kick to bring CUW within one.
- In the opening half, senior Colin Dibb (Hartland, Wis.) put CUW on the board first with a strike in the 12th minute. Dibb dribbled through the defense and scored from inside the box for his 11th goal of the year.
- MSOE responded with a late first-half score on a Braden Andryk free kick from about 25 yards out.
- The Falcons outshot MSOE 21-12, but the Raiders put seven shots on goal compared to six for CUW. Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) finished the match with four saves, as did his counterpart, Riley Bruce.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This was the third straight season CUW has lost at home in the NACC Tournament. The Falcons fell to Aurora in the opening round last season and were defeated by Dominican in the semifinals in 2015.
- The loss concludes the careers of an impressive senior class for CUW. Loya, Dibb, Devin Bathke, Jeremy Jenich, Sam Vandehaar, Jake Swihart, Michael Benash, Josiah Ochoa, Reed Waldhart, and Cameron Sweeney helped the Falcons to two conference titles and several wins over the past four years.
