Men's Soccer posts third-straight NACC win

MEQUON, Wis. – Dagoberto Diaz played a role in each goal as the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team remained perfect in NACC play with a 3-1 win over Edgewood Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field.

THE BASICS
Final Score:
Concordia Wisconsin 3, Edgewood 1
Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wisconsin
Records: CUW 4-2-3, 3-0-0 NACC; Edgewood 6-3-0, 1-2-0 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons went up 1-0 in the 16th minute as Colin Dibb (Hartland, Wis.) scored off a pass from Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.). Edgewood was whistled for a foul just on the Falcons side of midfield and Diaz was able to play the ball quickly up to Dibb, who did the rest for the 1-0 advantage.

- In the 29th minute, CUW went 2-0 on the first goal of the season by Zach Gyuricza (Chicago, Ill.). Diaz started the play with a long pass up to Dibb who had the touch to Gyuricza for the score. The 2-0 lead would hold for the remainder of the half.

- Diaz made the score 3-0 just 1:33 into the second half on an unassisted score. He took advantage of a misplay by the Eagles defense and used his left foot to bury the shot from about 15 yards out. The score was the third of the season for the junior midfielder.

- Edgewood scored its lone goal with two minutes left on the clock as Sean Surtees netted his fifth of the year. Luke Miller assisted on the play.

- Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) finished with five saves for the Falcons. CUW controlled possession throughout, finishing with a 23-14 advantage in shots. Dan Dombrowski was plenty busy as the Eagles keeper, finishing the match with 11 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Since joining the NACC prior to the 2006 season, CUW has started conference play with a 3-0-0 record on four other occasions. The Falcons were 3-0-0 in NACC play in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012. The Falcons won at least eight conference games in three of those seasons, the lone exception, a 7-1-3 conference mark in 2009.

UP NEXT
- CUW will be back in action Saturday with a NACC road match at Aurora. The match between the Spartans and Falcons is set for a 4 p.m. start.
