Men's Soccer finds scoring touch in NACC win at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The story for much of the early season for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team has been plenty of scoring chances, but not enough scores. On Thursday in the Falcons NACC opener, they changed that story by scoring six times in a rout of Marian. The Falcons scored twice in the first half and poured on four goals in the second half for a 6-1 win.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 6, Marian 1
- Location: Fond du Lac Soccer Complex – Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
- Records: CUW 2-2-3, 1-0-0 NACC; Marian 5-3-0, 0-1-0 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons got going early as Colin Dibb (Hartland, Wis.) struck in the 11th minute to put his team up 1-0. The Sabres had a quick response, however, as Cade Klusendorf scored just under six minutes later to make the score even at one.

- CUW took over from that point, scoring the game-winning goal with under 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Dagoberto Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) tallied the game-winner for the Falcons.

- The Falcons used the momentum from the late first-half score to add four more tallies in the second. Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had the first second-half score in the 53rd minute, while Josiah Ochoa (Mundelein, Ill.) struck in the 54th minute for a 4-1 CUW advantage. Diaz assisted on the Ochoa score.

- The final two goals for CUW came in the 81st and 82nd minutes, respectively. Cristian Tyrpak (Hartford, Wis.) tallied his first career collegiate goal to make the score 5-1 off an assist from Michael Benash (New Berlin, Wis.). Ochoa then scored his second goal of the night, this one assisted to Tyrpak to cap off the scoring for the Falcons.

- CUW finished with a 25-7 edge in shots and were balanced with 12 shots in the first half and 13 in the final 45 minutes. The Falcons put 16 of those shots on goal, compared to just three on goal for the Sabres.

- Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) got the win at keeper for the Falcons, playing nearly 76 minutes before being relieved by freshman Joshua Bobke (Oconomowoc, Wis.). Yeager made one save, while the Falcons had a team save as well in the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The offensive outburst was much needed for the Falcons. CUW scored twice in its season-opening win, but had gone the last five matches with a total of three goals.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will return home for a NACC matchup with defending NACC Tournament champion Benedictine. The match will serve as the first part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 1 p.m.
