Best's 11-point performance ties record, Falcons shutdown Raiders

MEQUON, Wis. – Marino Best had a career game on Wednesday afternoon and did what had been done just once before in program history, accumulating 11 points during Concordia Wisconsin's 17-7 victory over MSOE at Fitting Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Best (senior, Nanaimo, British Columbia) nearly defeated the Raiders by himself and ended the win with a program record-tying 11-point performance that include seven goals and four assists. The attacker began the day with a hat trick in the opening quarter and scratched his named in the box score throughout.
- Concordia Wisconsin built a 3-0 advantage midway through the opening period, but MSOE responded and got to within a goal, 4-3, with 12 minutes to play before halftime. The Falcons answered with five goals and eventually owned a 9-5 lead at halftime.
- The Falcons outscored their Midwest Lacrosse Conference foe 8-2 in the second half, which included three man-up markers. In the end, they outshot the Raiders 47-26 and won 20-of-28 faceoffs.
- CUW also had a 39-21 difference in ground balls, cleared 20-of-23 attempts and caused seven turnovers.
- Senior Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) dominated the faceoff circle, winning 20-of-28 chances and picking up 10 ground balls. Junior Benjamin Smith (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) scooped up a career-best six ground balls and caused a turnover, while sophomore Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) caused a career-high three turnovers and recorded four ground balls.
- Four Falcons scored twice in the victory, with senior Matt Garvey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and junior James Warner (Ham Lake, Minn.) each assisting on a pair of goals. In all, 14-of-17 goals were assisted on.
- Senior Zachary Doll (Calgary, Alberta) finished with a career-best eight ground balls.
- Freshman Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made 12 saves in a complete game winning effort.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Best's 11 points ties the program's game record set by Matt Garvey last season and his seven goals were tied for the fifth most in a game. In addition, Best's four assists are tied for the ninth most and his 14 shots are tied for the fourth most.
- Bundra's 20 faceoff wins are the fifth most in a game in program history and his 10 ground balls are tied for the ninth most.
- CUW's 14 assists are tied for the 10th most ever record in a game in program history.
- Wohlford recorded his 10th win of the season in goal, which is now a single season record for CUW.
- The Falcons have now defeated the Raiders in all seven meetings and by a combined score of 120-23.

THE OPPOSITION
- Zach Markell led the Raiders with four tallies and Oliver Kennedy had two goals and an assist. Thomas Reid finished with a goal and two assists.
- Pat Collins picked up six ground balls, and Markell and James Simonson each caused two turnovers.
- Collins made eight saves in goal.
